Anchoress was formed in 2010 and it has been nothing but high energy fun ever since. With singer Rob Hoover, drummer Chris Lennox-Aasen, lead guitarist Keenan Federico, and bass player Ricky Castanedo, it only took but a few months to come up with their first full length album, titled Set Sail. They soon followed with an exhausting, but successful Canada tour, but once the tour was over it didn’t take long to get back into the studio to record, and then to release, their next full-length album titled Crime & Compass. They quickly became a staple of the punk scene in Vancouver, due in part to their music and in part to their infamously and entertaining high energy show, which can be described as aggressively hardcore punk.
The Anchoress live shows were constantly packed and their records were selling like crazy. They love playing the local venues, but are also just as comfortable on the big stages, having opened for acts like Baptists, Single Mothers, Gallows, Guttermouth, Trash Talk, Cancer Rats, and Nu Sensei to name a few. After releasing their second album they went on tour again, this time up and down the entire west coast.
Touring is exhausting, but this band knows not what the word relax means. After their second tour they immediately wrote and recorded 12 new songs that would become an EP titled T.E.P.F.K.A.L. and their third full-length album titled Anchoress Is Ruining My Life. The album was recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC, their home town, with Jesse Gander (White Lung, Subhumans, Blue Monday) working the board, giving it his own trademark energy and clarity. They are now working in association with DU:M.
